In China, Xiaomi launched MIUI 12 in late April. Since then in the form of beta and stable builds worldwide, the firm has been pushing the update. Now, eight months later, the firm is quietly announcing that it will not upgrade Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A to MIUI 12.
Xiaomi held a separate online event for global markets a month after the Chinese MIUI 12 launch meeting. The company revealed the complete list of phones that will be getting MIUI 12 at the end of this case.
Most the products that have been launched in the last two years are included in the list. Redmi Y3, Redmi 7, Redmi 6, and Redmi 6A were thus, part of it. However after seven months after it was released, Xiaomi has sadly withdrawn these four handsets from the eligibility list.
Due to ‘compatibility and performance problems’, the company claims that these devices will not be updated to MIUI 12.
For those unaware, MIUI 12 differs by model on Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones. Not all appliances support each function and the availability of such features often varies by country. Since MIUI is, like any other Chinese mobile UI, a heavy Android skin, it needs more horsepower.
This is the key reason why the flagship and also select mid-range phones are exclusive to vivo OriginOS.
That said, since their launch, these four Redmi phones have been notorious for performance problems. I know the pain, having personally used Redmi 7 with MIUI 10 and MIUI 11.
But even, it’s horrible that only a single MIUI as well as Android updates have been received by these global Xiaomi best-sellers. Also for Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3, the latter update (Android 10) has yet to roll out globally.
